What We Do (Part 2)
We stand with and support those in our community who are underserved, overlooked, and facing an uncertain future.

01) We Protest
We believe that peaceful protests are a means of creating community, helping those who are feeling there is something wrong that they are not alone, and let people in the community that there is something wrong that they need to look at and explore. Protests are not an end in themselves but an important means for developing community and coalitions that can be a force for justice (the public face of love), a impactful voice and presence for those who are struggling, those being ignored and/or negatively impacted by what is going on.
02) We Advocate in City Council, City Commission and School Board meetings
We encourage people to attend meetings, speak at meetings, and write emails to those sitting on the city council, commissions, or school board. Over the years we have made a difference through our persistent prophetic presence and emails.
03) We Stand Up, Show Up and Speak Up
We believe it’s important to let people know where we stand, making our presence noticed and our voices heard. There are many ways to stand up, show up, and speak up, and we encourage and challenge people to find a way that pushes them but still feels somewhat comfortable and supported.
04) We Research
We study, gather information, talk through issues and strategies as needed. This, at times, will involve meeting with those in the city, county, state, who are moving the decision forward, are very vocal in their support or resistance on a particular policy or merely a key voting member who is critical to our cause.
05) We Encourage Self-Care
We encourage people to have good boundaries, to say no, to take time to care of themselves, for we believe that helps all of us in the work we are doing. The words of John Lewis remind us that ours is a long, arduous journey. Lewis wrote, “Our struggle is not a struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year; it is a struggle of a lifetime.” If we are not modeling self-care and encouraging others to take care of themselves, then we will not be able to continue to make some noise and get into good and necessary trouble when it is needed.
